“Green Acres that’s the place to be
Farm living is the life for me.
Land spreading out so far and wide….
Keep *Chicago, and give me the country side”
Everyone knows that song from the TV show… Green Acres which ran from 1965 to 1971 (I know this thanks to a quick Wikipedia look up).
I’m safely back in Iowa as of 9:00 PM Friday night.
The opportunity arose that Greg was in Cedar Rapids on Friday, and we met up along the way back to Des Moines. We ended up driving off of the Interstate part way to have dinner in the Amana Colonies.
The Iowa country side was so beautiful on this cool summer evening.
My co-worker Cindi, on our drive over together on Wednesday to Chicago, had told me that she heard that one corn stock only had two ears of corn on it. I was surprised to hear that and also surprised that I didn’t know if it was true or not. So I stopped and looked at the corn on my way home. It appears she was correct, but I’m going to double check that fact with my mother, since she was raised on a farm.
Here it is August 1st and I have not yet had any sweet corn to eat! I’m putting that on my list of things to do this weekend. Otherwise I’m going to rest up. July has been such a wonderful, fun-filled month, but it’s now over and it’s time to focus back on work, training, and the fall education workshop I’m putting together. Six weeks go.
Beautiful corn pictures. I love the tassles when they turn to gold.
